SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A bear was safely removed from a Spokane Valley neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, according to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD).

At around 1:00 p.m., the Spokane Regional Emergency Communications (SREC) informed SVFD that Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) officers needed assistance with a bear in a tree near a home in the 3500 block of N. Beige Rd, an SVFD release said.

WDFW officers requested a ladder truck to help reach the bear. However, SVFD said it was conducting a regional trench rescue training nearby at Station 10 when the call came in.

Spokane County Fire District 9 responded from the training site to assist in the operation.

The bear was tranquilized by WDFW officers and safely removed from the area.
