Barstow Road Fire still burning in Walla Walla County

WALLA WALLA COUNTY, Wash. – Firefighters are making progress on the Barstow Fire near Prescott.

The fire is currently 97% contained and has burned just over 1,500 acres.

Crews were able to establish containment lines around the fire.

So far, no buildings have been damaged, though two are currently threatened.

There are no evacuation orders in place, but fire officials urge residents and travelers in the area to stay alert and aware of the situation.

UPDATE: June 24, 2025 11:22 a.m.

The Barstow Road Fire is now 37% contained, according to the Southeast Washington Inter-Agency Team.

The fire is a danger to two structures, but has not yet damaged any. It is an estimated 1543 acres so far.

According to the report, three strike teams of wildland engines and two hand crews were successful at containing the fire along the Barstow Road area.

Today, hand crews and engines will be working on containment lines around the part of the fire near Canyon Bottom Road. They will also be securing the perimeter of the fire and mopping up hot spots.

Infrared flights will also fly over the fire to look for remaining hot spots, according to the report.

The Southeast Washington Inter-Agency Team asked that people avoid flying in the area, including the use of drones. “If you fly, we can’t,” they wrote.

There are no evacuation orders in place, but they warned residents and travelers to be aware of the wildfire, which is burning in the area north of Prescott off Barstow Road.

UPDATE: June 23 at 10:45 p.m.

The Barstow Road Fire near Prescott has burned approximately 1,500 acres of grass and crops.

The fire remains zero percent contained.

The Southeast Washington Interagency Incident Command Team has now taken charge.

Spokesperson Jodi Walker provided an update after an aerial view of the fire.

“So it is a little bit cooler today and the winds have calmed down a bit. So we’re hoping that will allow the crews to be able to get ahead of it. They’re out laying line and getting around the perimeter by the end of the day today we’re hoping to have three strike teams and two hand crews on site. That will be about 110 people that are working actively on the fire,” Walker said.

Walker also mentioned that a temporary flight restriction is in place over the airspace above the fire.

Fortunately, no buildings have been damaged and no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

UPDATE: June 23 at 10:28 a.m.

In an update from Walla Walla County Emergency Management, all level 1 (BE READY) evacuation notices have been lifted.

WALLA WALLA COUNTY, Wash. – A fire is burning approximately 2,000 acres on Barstow Road near Prescott, according to the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Barstow Fire began just before 6:00 p.m. yesterday, affecting brush and grass and posing a threat to nearby crops and conservation land.

State fire units are actively responding, and level 1 (BE READY) evacuations have been issued. Air resources have also been deployed to assist in controlling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Residents in the area are advised to stay informed and follow any further evacuation instructions.
