SPOKANE, Wash. – Avista completed its rock relocation project at the Monroe Street Dam and plans to dissemble and move the crane out of the project area on November 3, which will cause street closures.
During the disassembly, Spokane Falls Boulevard will close between Post Street and Lincoln Street from 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to Avista, which outlines the traffic details.
During that time, traffic on Spokane Falls Boulevard between Stevens Street and Post Street will be reduced to two lanes.
Street parking on those streets will still be open and the access to the Post Street bridge will still be available. Through traffic on the street will be detoured south at Howard Street
“Traffic control personnel will be in place throughout the crane demobilization process to assist drivers and ensure safety,” Avista said.
The rock relocation project began on October 15 and ended on October 31. The project takes place at the Monroe Street Dam every year.
According to the City of Spokane, the water that flows down the river and through the Monroe Street Dam drags rocks and debris with it, causing the debris to pile up behind the dam.
The project, which Avista operates, moves the rocks downstream using a large crane.
The rocks are placed to become fish habitats.
