Avista details on exit from Colstrip Units 3 & 4 in new report

SPOKANE, Wash. – Avista shared their latest Corporate Responsibility report, which includes information on its exit from Colstrip Units 3 and 4.

With the exit, Avista no longer has a coal-fired generating source, which would put the business in compliance with Washington law requiring electric utilities to no longer use coal-fired resources.

Analysis by Avista also showed that after 2025.

The agreement gives NorthWestern Energy ownership of the 222 MW generating capacity of the plant, along with its related interest in the plant, plant equipment, rights and obligations.

This comes just a week after the U.S. Department of Energy ordered Washington’s only coal-fired power plant to continue to operate due to concerns about the energy grid.

Avista’s ownership of Colstrip will be transferred to NorthWestern Energy beginning Dec. 31.
