Authorities investigating officer involved shooting in Everett following chase

EVERETT, Wash. – An officer involved shooting incident that occurred on Friday morning is currently under investigation by detectives with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART).

The incident began around 4:48 a.m. when Skagit County dispatch sought regional assistance as deputies pursued a male suspect who had reportedly fired shots from a vehicle.

After probable cause was established for assault charges against the suspect, a combined force of the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, Sedro Woolley Police Department, Washington State Patrol and Arlington Police Department pursued him into Everett.

SMART officials reported that the chase concluded at the 6100 block of Fleming Street. Authorities attempted to apprehend the suspect using less lethal means, but the confrontation escalated, resulting in officers firing shots.

The suspect was injured during this confrontation, and despite life saving efforts made by first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the suspect and determine his manner of death. Additionally, an independent investigation into the assault incidents preceding the pursuit and the officer involved shooting will be conducted by the Skagit County independent investigations team.
