Twelve attorneys general, including those from Washington State, have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration. They are challenging the recent decision to cut federal funding designated for terrorism prevention and FEMA support.
The lawsuit, filed in Rhode Island’s federal court, claims that the funds were reduced due to the states being labeled as “sanctuary jurisdictions.” The issue has sparked significant concern, as the cuts total more than $233 million, affecting the states and the District of Columbia. Washington alone saw a $2 million reduction.
The attorneys general are seeking a temporary restraining order to maintain the funding while litigation continues. They argue that the administration’s decision unjustly penalizes states based on their stance on sanctuary policies.
This legal move aims to protect crucial funding for terrorism prevention and emergency management from being compromised. The outcome of this lawsuit could have significant implications for the affected states and their ability to manage security and emergency services.
