Armed Suspect Killed in Spokane SWAT Operation Tied to Recent Stabbing

SPOKANE, Wash. — A shooting occurred early this morning in Spokane as local law enforcement attempted to arrest a suspect connected to a recent stabbing at the Apple Tree.

The Spokane SWAT team arrived near Oak and Carlisle at approximately 1:45 a.m. to make the arrest. According to Chief Hall with the Spokane Police Department, officers were met with resistance when they entered the home, as the suspect was armed and non-cooperative. In response, three officers discharged their weapons.

Chief Hall confirmed that the suspect was killed. He stated that the investigation is ongoing and expected to take most of the day. Roads in the area are anticipated to remain closed for at least 10 hours.

Hall also mentioned the possibility of other suspects being involved in the stabbing at the Apple Tree, but they are not considered a threat to the public at this time.

“This is the first officer-involved shooting in 12 months for the Spokane Police Department,” Hall said.

The Spokane Independent Investigation Response Team, known as SIRR, will take over the investigation. Deputy Gregory with SIRR indicated that more information is expected to be available to the public by the end of the week.
