MILLWOOD, Wash. — Rush hour headaches exacerbated by construction on Argonne Road through Millwood could continue for longer than originally planned thanks to a union labor dispute.
Workers on the project aren’t striking, but the project is dependent on concrete deliveries that could be held up by .
In a statement, Millwood Mayor Kevin Freeman confirmed the impact and said the city doesn’t have a stance on the labor dispute itself. The city does, however, hope for a quick resolution.
“Without (concrete deliveries) the current work will be limited, and the citizens Millwood and those who use Argonne on a daily basis will be impacted by delays in completing these critical safety and infrastructure improvements,” Freeman said in a statement. “Our sole interest is in seeing a timely resolution so this and other vital infrastructure projects in our region can stay on track.”
While city officials hope the project will mitigate traffic and make the road safer when all is said and done, business owners in the area told NonStop Local they were concerned about the impacts . A few of the businesses on the west side of the road posted handmade “No Left Turn on Argonne” for months leading up to the start of construction.
When the project is finished, benefits will include new center and left-turn lanes, a new shared use path on the east side of the road and upgrades to the railroad crossing, among others.
