Arc of Spokane celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

SPOKANE, Wash. — March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a time to highlight individuals with DD, celebrate diversity, and advocate for disability rights.

The Arc of Spokane has spent decades supporting families with children who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization helps people with IDD transition into adulthood through multiple programs that extend beyond their well-known thrift stores.

“A lot of people when they think of the Arc they mostly think oh the thrift store. And we have all these other services we do. We have the day programs, parent to parent, we have the advocacy, we have supportive employment,” said Ashley Jimenez from The Arc of Spokane.

According to The Arc, DD Awareness Month explores how access, rights, and inclusive practices give people with developmental disabilities more independence and community involvement.

“At The Arc of Spokane, we continue to advocate for a more inclusive world every day so that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can have greater independence and deeper involvement in community life across Spokane,” The Arc stated.

The Arc operates two thrift stores on Argonne in Spokane Valley and Newport Highway in North Spokane provide financial support for these services. Both are offering a promotion through the rest of the week: spend $40 and get $5 off your next visit.
