SPOKANE, Wash. – The annual Torch Light Parade in downtown Spokane is just days away, and with it comes the traditional Lilac luncheon.
This yearly event honors the reigning Lilac Court and recognizes the volunteers who have been part of the parade’s history.
The Associated Garden Club (AGC), which launched the first Lilac Parade in 1938, plays a key role in organizing the luncheon. Held at the downtown DoubleTree ballroom, the luncheon featured flower decorations and attendees dressed in lilac colors. Three speakers addressed the crowd, sharing information about the organization and AGC’s grants. They also announced which Lilac Princesses will receive AGC scholarships.
“I think what we all try to do… is support Spokane. Bring people in here to enjoy this festival and parade. The people who have donated to our auction items have been very generous this year… This is another way that we earn the money, as well as our plant sale… And so, the grants that we give help beautify Spokane and that’s what our real work is,” Elizabeth Raol, Vice President of AGC and the luncheon chair, said.
The week will culminate in the Torch Light Parade. Viewers can tune in live on SWX Saturday night at 7 p.m.
