SPOKANE, Wash. – On Friday, the annual Color of Justice event brought together dozens of students at the Spokane County Courthouse. This event aimed to inspire young minds by allowing students to connect with law professionals and students who shared their journeys in the legal field.
The event focused on encouraging students to explore limitless career options. Gonzaga Law student Malea Loukides emphasized the importance of the event in inspiring students from diverse ethnic backgrounds to consider various law-related jobs.
“There’s so much passion out there, and I can see it in students and events like this,” Loukides said. “I think it’s amazing when we kind of open it up and let the lawyers speak up.”
Prosecuting Attorney Preston McCollum reinforced this message, telling students they each have a seat at the table in the legal world.
Abigail Mendez, an eighth-grade student, expressed her excitement for the future after connecting with local law professionals.
“It’s going to be hard. I mean, life is hard, so you just have to keep pushing, go through it…you’ll get to where you want to be as long as you’re trying to get there. And so I think this would be a good job just to do in general,” Mendez said.
Presenters at the event highlighted that while reaching success in any field, including law, isn’t easy, it is rewarding in the long run.
Students left the courthouse with new insights and connections, feeling inspired to pursue their dreams.
