Airway Heights Police arrest burglary suspect in motel following Saturday standoff

The Airway Heights Police Patrol Division arrested burglary and theft suspect Rudy G. Parsons today, according to an update by Airway Heights Police.

Investigators said Parsons was located at a motel in the 9500 block of North Division Street in Spokane, following interviews with community members.

Parsons was taken into custody without incident.

Alongside Parsons, officers arrested a 40-year-old for rendering criminal assistance, false statements and false reporting. Both individuals were transported to the Spokane County Jail.

UPDATE: January 17, 2026 at 1:32 p.m.

The Airway Heights Police Department arrested a 15-year-old on Friday night after a standoff involving SWAT, but were unable to locate his 37-year-old father, who police also had probable cause to arrest connected to a commercial burglary.

According to a social media post from AHPD, police first responded to the commercial burglary on South Garfield Road on January 14, where they developed probable cause to arrest Rudy G. Parsons and his son. AHPD said Parsons fled the scene.

On January 16 at around 7:30 p.m., AHPD received information that Parsons may have been inside a residence on South Lawson Street armed with a rifle.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team responded to assist as well as crisis negotiators.

“After several hours of attempted contact and negotiations, and less lethal tactics, the Spokane County SWAT Team entered the residence,” AHPD said. “Following an extensive search, Parsons was not located.”

Parsons’ son was found at the residence and arrested on burglary and theft charges.

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. – A heavy law enforcement presence gathered in the 1900 block of South Lawson Street on Friday night. Units from the Airway Heights Police Department, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and Kalispel Tribal Police Department were dispatched to the scene.

NonStop Local personnel at the scene reported that SWAT had blocked off a section of the street, preventing homeowners in the area from accessing their residences.

Police have established a perimeter and are currently instructing an individual to exit their residence or else force will be used against them.

No details have been shared at this time regarding the suspect or the events leading up to the SWAT response.
