AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. – The City of Airway Heights has opened part of its new Public Safety Building for the Airway Heights Wrestling Club, which outgrew its space at The Heights Church.
This year, more than 100 children, ages 5 to 14, joined the club, according to a Facebook post by the Airway Heights Police Department.
Jacob Powers, pastor at Heights Church and head of the wrestling club, saw potential in the future police station as a temporary space. “It’s just a big open warehouse until the remodeling begins,” he said in the Facebook post.
Powers noted in the post that the club has the largest volunteer administration team it has ever had. He emphasized the dedication of volunteers, some of whom do not have children in the program but believe in the positive impact wrestling can have on children.
Practices are now held twice a week. Powers is still searching for a permanent home for the club, highlighting the life lessons wrestling teaches.
