Air 1 helps catch Spokane Valley teen in stolen truck

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A 13-year-old runaway was taken into custody after driving a stolen vehicle recklessly, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).

On July 10, 2025, at around 9:15 p.m., deputies responded to a report of reckless driving near E. Broadway Avenue and I-90 where a truck was seen swerving on the road.

Investigators said Air 1, already on a scheduled flight, quickly located the truck on Broadway Avenue.

The driver attempted to navigate the eastbound I-90 on-ramp but crashed into a retaining barrier.

The juvenile, who tried to escape by driving into grass, was taken into custody, SCSO said in a release.

Deputies said they discovered he was a reported runaway and the truck was stolen from a business lot in the 11400 block of E. Montgomery.

The fleet manager confirmed the vehicle was taken without permission, the release added.

The juvenile faces charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and reckless driving.
