Investigators: Extension cord to blame for deadly fire in West Central Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Fire Department (SFD) released the cause of , which was revealed to be an electrical fire.

The SFD investigation revealed the April 20 fatal house fire was accidental and caused by an electrical malfunction.

Investigators said they identified an extension cord instead of permanent wiring as the point of failure. Spokane fire said the fire originated on the front porch near the garage and rapidly spread to the upstairs living quarters, where the family members were found. SFD investigators also said they found no functional smoke alarms in the residence.

The cause of the fire was released after , was released.
