$40 million in funding approved for Spokane transportation projects

SPOKANE, Wash. – More than $40 million in federal funding is heading to Spokane County to support a wide range of transportation improvements.

The Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC) will start 21 projects across the region after having been selected to receive funding over the next three years, beginning in 2027.

“These investments are important for our community in addressing issues of safety, congestion, walkability, and transit access,” said SRTC Executive Director Lois Bollenback.

“We’re also prioritizing preservation of existing infrastructure with dedicated funding set aside by the SRTC Board.”

Major projects include $5 million for the Sullivan/Trent interchange in Spokane Valley, $2.1 million for active transportation upgrades on Division Street in Spokane, and $5 million for pedestrian and multi-modal improvements along US 2 in Airway Heights.

Other projects will focus on bridge rehabilitation, trail connections—including linking the Fish Lake Trail to the Centennial Trail—intersection upgrades, transit planning, and commute reduction programs.

About $8.6 million is estimated specifically for preserving and extending the life of local roadways.

The SRTC Board approved the funding list on July 10 and also adopted a contingency list of projects in case additional funds become available.
