SPOKANE, Wash. – A tense situation unfolded on I-90 near the Geiger Boulevard interchange as three individuals were seen walking on the interstate, causing alarm.

Washington State Patrol reported that one person ran across the eastbound lanes, forcing a car to swerve to avoid a collision. Troopers managed to contact the other two individuals.

To ensure safety, troopers conducted a rolling slowdown to help the remaining two people safely exit the median.

Ryan Overton, WSDOT Communications Manager, emphasized the dangers of walking on busy highways.

“Anytime you have somebody walking on the interstate with speeds of 60 plus miles an hour… sudden movements from an individual could have been disastrous,” Overton said.

Overton advised that if your vehicle breaks down, it’s safer to stay inside and call WSDOT or 911 for assistance.
