SPOKANE, Wash. – Two teenagers were sentenced to a state rehabilitation program Friday for shooting a man on September 21.
A 14-year-old pleaded guilty to first-degree assault with a firearm and a 13-year-old pleaded guilty to criminal mischief with a weapon and custodial assault.
The 14-year-old was ordered to a Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) rehabilitation center to serve 2.5 to 3 years.
The 13-year-old was ordered to serve 1 year and 3 months in a rehabilitation center for punching the victim before the 14-year-old shot him.
The shooting took place outside of a party on North Washington Street on September 21.
“During the sentencing of the 14-year-old shooter, Judge Schmidt remarked that youth gun violence is a scourge on our community and makes it unsafe for all,” according to a press release from the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
