YAKIMA, Wash – The second and third quarters doomed the Deer Park Stags, as they dropped the quarterfinal game of the State 2A girls basketball tournament in Yakima.
The Stags were the two seed, following a regular season with just one loss.
However, they dropped an opening round game to Ellensburg, putting them on a collision course to face top-seeded Lynden in the quarterfinals.
Lynden is two-time defending state champs.
It was close after the first quarter, with Lynden carrying a one-point lead. But, Deer Park was held to just two points in the second quarter and nine points in the third and just couldn’t come back from there.
Despite turning the ball over 15 times, Lynden won 58-33.
Lynden outrebounded the Stags 43-26.
Deer Park now faces Nathan Hale Friday in the consolation bracket.
Senior guard Jacey Boesel led Deer Park with 11 points. Junior Ashlynn Bryant had 10 points in the loss.
