HUNTERS, Wash. — Two people are presumed dead and two others were injured after a house fire in Stevens County.
According to Stevens County Fire District 2, the fire was reported around 3 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 6700 block of Springdale Hunters Road, outside Hunters between Davenport and Kettle Falls. Firefighters arrived to find the house fully engulfed in flames.
Crews said that six people were living in the home. Two were not injured, two were taken to the hospital and two others were missing and are presumed dead, according to firefighters.
Fire District 2 said that the house was still smoldering and too hot for crews to enter as of Thursday. Firefighters have been mopping up hot spots since Wednesday.
Fire District 2 said that there are no fire hydrants in the area, so crews had to shuttle water to the scene.
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office is now leading the investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
