2 people stabbed in Coeur d’Alene; suspect in custody

According to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department (CDAPD), after responding to the reported knife assault, officers found a male suspect dragging an elderly woman in front of a residence in the 1400 block of East Front Avenue.

The suspect was taken into custody without further issue.

Investigators discovered that the suspect was a resident of an adult home for individuals with special needs. He allegedly became upset, attacked a fellow resident and stabbed a staff member with a kitchen knife.

Shortly afterwards, the suspect also attacked an elderly woman outside a nearby residence, reportedly hitting her multiple times. The CDAPD reported that the suspect had multiple self-inflicted stab wounds by the time officers arrived at the scene.

Police officers and Coeur d’Alene Fire personnel provided medical treatment to the victims and the suspect, before all three were transported to Kootenai Health for further care.

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The Coeur d’Alene Police Department (CDAPD) reported an assault with a knife on Thursday evening in the 1400 block of East Front Avenue.

A substantial law enforcement presence has been noted in the area as the investigation is ongoing.

“The situation is under control and there is no further threat to the public. Please avoid the area until further notice,” the CDAPD stated.
