STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. – Two women were hospitalized following a head-on collision on State Route 395 Wednesday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The crash took place around 7:44 a.m., approximately nine miles south of Chewelah.

WSP officials stated that a Chevy Colorado was heading southbound on SR-395 when it lost traction and veered into the northbound lane, striking an Acura RDX head-on. Both vehicles then collided with the guardrail.

The driver of the Chevy, a 48-year-old woman from Chattaroy, and the driver of the Acura, a 40-year-old woman from Deer Park, were both taken to a local hospital with injuries.

WSP noted that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. The main cause of the incident was cited as speeds too fast for the road conditions.
