WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Approximately 14 million bees are now on the loose in Whatcom County after a semi-truck carrying numerous hives rolled over, losing part of its load.

The accident led to a road closure in the rural area northwest of Lynden, near the Canadian border. The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reported the escape and issued a warning to the public.

The Sheriff’s Office advised people to avoid the area due to the risk of swarming bees. On the scene, the Sheriff’s Office’s Division of Emergency Management worked alongside several master beekeepers to manage the situation.
