SPOKANE, Wash. – On November 17, 2015, the Jones family had not just one, but two trees crash through their home.
“We were at the window and it happened,” one of the children told at the time. “We were looking at the tree, and then the house started rumbling. And slowly the tree got faster and faster coming down on us.”
One tree, through the window of the girl’s bedroom. The other, through the garage.
“The motto is either to laugh or cry,” Elisa Jones said 10-years after the event. “We chose to laugh about it.
Initially, the family was told it would take six months and more than $200,000 to rebuild, but the process took longer than expected.
“They wound up being more like 9 or 10 months,” Eliza Jones said.
During the rebuilding period, the family lived in an apartment and at least two hotels, while the house was taken down to the studs and rebuilt with upgrades.
“We started with a three bedroom one bath and we ended up with, after we put in some money with a four bedroom two bath,” Elisa Jones said.
Today, the Jones family children, who witnessed the tree crash through their window, are in their 20s. And the blue house on the corner remains their home.
