SPOKANE, Wash. – Children were evacuated from Just Imagine Childcare after a car caught fire beneath the building on Friday morning.

At 10 a.m., the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to East Rowan Avenue and North Lidgerwood Street for reports of a car fire.

SFD reported that the fire started after a car experienced a mechanical malfunction while parked under the building.

Crews successfully contained the fire, which only damaged the car parked next to it and no flames reached the building.

The building above the parking garage holds multiple businesses, mainly doctors’ offices.

According to SFD, while the flames from the car did not damage the building, smoke traveled into the businesses above, resulting in the evacuation.

No injuries have been reported from the fire.
